Thursday, September 10 brought sharp declines in several names in our paper book, led by the nuclear fuel names. LEU stood out for its above-average volume. No fills were recorded in our designated paper account today, according to the broker activity record checked after the close. This Close focuses on the market moves in the names we hold.
The market
The indexes slipped, with growth weaker: SPY fell 0.60% and QQQ fell 1.06% [1]. The seven stocks discussed below each fell more than those indexes; this is a stock-level comparison, not a calculation of portfolio performance.
The tape in our names
LEU was the loudest name we own, down 8.61% on 158.46% of its own 20-day average volume [2]. The combination of a large price decline and above-average trading volume makes LEU the focus of our next-session watch. Volume alone does not establish who traded or why.
The other six large decliners traded below their own average volumes. UUUU dropped 6.32% on 97.10% of its normal volume, putting its trading volume close to, but below, its average [2]. NBIS lost 5.09% on just 66.58% of normal volume, PPTA 4.40% on 68.83%, AMKR 3.54% on 72.40%, UMAC 3.25% on 62.91%, and NVDA 2.37% on 79.65% [2]. One fact runs through all six: below-average volume. The shared declines are consistent with broader risk aversion, but price and volume alone cannot separate that explanation from company-specific developments. Three other names in the book moved less than 2% [2].
What we watch
LEU's price and volume on Friday. Another decline on above-average volume would warrant a closer review of the company and sector evidence. Lower volume would not by itself establish that the pressure has passed.
